WEEKLY RADAR #412 & 413: What to pay Yourself as a Founder, the AI House Way, Assuming a Shutdown

GEM's inaugural Shortlist Retreat took place in Boulder this week. The event was a confidential setting, so details will remain private. What an incredible week of vulnerability, peer mastermind sessions, and physical outdoor activity. 12 founders walked away with more perspective and capacity to accelerate their personal and professional growth. Supporting each other in ways they didn't know they needed. Stay tuned for dates on a 2027 Shortlist Retreat.

For the founders reading who have wondered "what do I pay myself?," NFX's Omri Drory shared a framework which is worth digging into (see below). This will be the topic of a future virtual GEM peer mastermind session. In other happenings, Roam is no longer and HouseMe.ai is taking a crack at lifestyle search.

If you missed it last week, Nvidia reported record earnings (AI is alive and well), as did Salesforce (SaaS is not dead). Unfortunately for us proptech folks, the GEM Proptech Index was flat this past week. However, with a combined market cap of $267.479B (as of August 12, 2026), the GEM Proptech Index is up 22.89% sequentially and 4.62% YoY since our Q1 report.

Without further ado, on to regular scheduled programming below...

AI'ING THE HOUSE MY WAY, THE HOUSEME WAY
By: Drew Meyers

Founded by practicing luxury brokers and launched in Toronto in June 2026, AI-powered search platform HouseMe.ai launched earlier this month, "going live in soft-launch markets across Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and West Virginia" with MLS data. The differentiator is searching by lifestyle rather than beds/baths/price. The platform includes a visual renovation engine, Intelligence Report that includes a true cost calculator, and an AI Valuation Score, a 0-10 fair-value rating assigned to every active listing.

I take issue with the assessment on the lifestyle search landscape/history by co-founder Nurit Coombe:
